A high fibre diet increases the risk of Diverticulitis.

An interesting study on over 2000 participants found that those who ate the most amount of fibre had a higher incidence of diverticulitus. A painful condition that causes out pouching of the intestinal wall. It was previously thought that high fibre, red meat and fat diets and inactivity were related to diverticulitis. This is not the case. The study doesn't highlight whether the source or fibre if from vegetables and fruits or from mostly grains. Interesting research, but more information is needed. A diet high in grains is linked to many other diseases, and this information would be of benefit to the reader.
